Tambouras

Stringed, timeless musical instrument of the wider lute family, with a long arm. The sazi and the related instruments in the respective Greek area were and are known as tambourades, even though the sazi – in its current form – is quite different from the Greek tambouras. The archetypal instruments of these are already known from the 2nd millennium BC. In ancient Greece we find it as a trichord or pandura, in Byzantium as tambouras and in modern Greece as tambouras, sazi, bulgari, bouzouki, baglama, etc.

It is a solo instrument with movable frets, being able to render all the micro-spaces of the “sounds” and “streets” of traditional and church music.
